1Step by step, the first time #
- Create the branches first — a group with no branches under it does nothing.
- Press Add (F3) . Fill the name and the display name ; both are required.
- Add the entity's address, GSTIN and bank details — these are what its documents print, not the company's.
- Press Add branch for each branch that invoices under it and pick the branch.
- Save (F5) . The group and its branch list are written together — all of it or none.
- Switch on Allow Group Company in General Settings once the groups are in place.
2Why is a pick-list empty? #
- The Branch column lists every branch in this company. Empty means none exist yet — create them in the Branch master.
- A branch already listed on this group can still be picked again; the save refuses the duplicate rather than silently keeping one.
- The same branch may appear under a different group company — nothing stops that, so check before assuming it is exclusive.
3Field details #
- Group Company Name — required and unique, up to 128 characters.
- Display Name — required, 30 characters, and what documents actually print.
- GSTIN — validated as you type; a wrong one is refused at save.
- Formal entity — marks the group as the one documents are formally issued under.
- Category on a branch row is free text. The desktop form never wrote it; it is here because the column exists and nothing else fills it.
4Rules and integrity #
- The group and its branch list save together , in one transaction. A failure part-way leaves neither.
- A branch appears once per group. A duplicate is refused with a message rather than quietly de-duplicated.
- Deleting a group removes its branch list automatically — the database cascades that one, unlike almost everywhere else in this schema.
- The branch rows carry no foreign key of their own, so a branch deleted elsewhere would leave a row pointing at nothing; the save checks the branch still exists.
- Permission triggers can refuse a save or delete outright.
- Every problem is reported at once , as a numbered list.
5Shortcut keys #
- F2 Find · F3 Add · F4 Modify · F5 Save
- Esc cancels the edit; in view mode it closes the page.
