1Fields & behaviour #
- Name is the group name and must be unique across all cost-centre groups; renaming it here also updates every child group that sits under it.
- Primary Group ? marks the record as a top-level group when on (the default for a new group). Turn it off to place this group under another one, which reveals the Under Group field.
- Under Group is the parent and is required only when Primary Group is off. Any existing cost-centre group can be the parent — primary or itself nested — it just cannot be this group. Missing it? Use the dropdown's + Create new cost-centre group footer — it opens this master, and the saved group is selected as the parent automatically.
- Toolbar: Find (F2) loads a group, Add (F3) starts a new one, Modify (F4) edits the loaded one, Save (F5) commits, Esc cancels.
2Step by step #
Cost-centre groups form the tree cost centres hang from — build the top first.
- Press Add (F3) , type Projects into Name , and pick the root entry in Under Group .
- Press Save (F5) and confirm.
- Press F3 again for a child — Site Works under Projects — and save. Two levels is usually enough to start; more can be added any time.
- Now open the Cost Centre master: the new groups appear in its Under Group list, ready to hold cost centres.
3Business rules & integrity #
- Hierarchy rules (database-enforced): Primary Group must be Y or N; a non-primary group's parent must exist, can't be blank, and can't be the group itself — a save breaking any of these is rolled back with the database's message.
- Unique name: two cost-centre groups can't share the same name — the save is refused.
- Rename cascade: renaming a group automatically updates the Under Group of every group beneath it.
- Delete is refused while other groups are still under this one — reassign them first. Deleting a group also clears its document links, and user permissions (_PERM triggers) can refuse a save or delete entirely.
- Under Group lists every existing cost-centre group (a parent need not be primary). Why is the pick-list empty? No cost-centre group has been saved yet — create the first one as a primary group, then nest the rest under it.
