Profit Centre Master

A Profit Centre tags vouchers to a business segment (a shop, a project, a product line) so profitability can be reported per segment. Voucher pick-lists offer the centres in Order No order, and inactive centres stay out of them.

1Fields & behaviour #

  • Profit Centre Name is required and must be unique across all profit centres — it is the name vouchers and reports show.
  • Description is a free note about the centre (up to 255 characters).
  • Order No orders the voucher pick-lists — centres with a lower number are listed first (blank sorts ahead); use it to keep the most-used centres on top.
  • Is Inactive ? hides the centre from voucher pick-lists without deleting it — existing vouchers keep their tag; turn it back off to reactivate.
  • Applicable Branches appears only in the ERP edition: the branches ticked here are the ones allowed to use this profit centre; leave it empty to allow every branch. The list comes from the Branch master.
  • Toolbar: Find (F2) loads a centre, Add (F3) starts a new one, Modify (F4) edits the loaded one, Save (F5) commits, Esc cancels. After a save the record stays loaded in View mode.

2Step by step #

Suppose the business wants its retail counter tracked as its own profit line.

  1. Press Add (F3) and type Retail Counter into Profit Centre Name .
  2. Give an Order No if reports should list centres in a fixed order rather than alphabetically.
  3. Leave Applicable Branches blank for all branches, or list the branches whose vouchers may pick this centre.
  4. Press Save (F5) and confirm. Voucher types configured for profit-centre tracking now offer it at entry, and profit reporting can split by it.

3Business rules & integrity #

  • Unique name: two profit centres can't share a name — a duplicate save is refused.
  • Permissions: user permission triggers (_PERM) on the table can refuse a save or delete entirely — contact the administrator if a change is blocked.
  • Delete: deleting a centre also clears its document links (_DOCLINK cleanup). Prefer marking a used centre inactive over deleting it, so old vouchers keep a meaningful tag.
  • Branch visibility (ERP): the Applicable Branches list is saved as branch ids; a non-ERP session never changes an existing list — it is preserved untouched on save.

This is the help InvoiceNET® ERP shows beside the Profit Centre Master screen. Whether you have the screen depends on the modules of your licence and the rights your administrator has given you.
