Standard Narrations

A Standard Narration is a reusable narration text tied to a voucher type . When entering a voucher of that type on the Inventory Transaction page, you can pick a saved narration instead of typing it each time.

1What is this master? #

  • One record per narration; a voucher type can have many. Use Find (F2) to load one, Add (F3) to create, Modify (F4) to edit.
  • From the Inventory Transaction page, open Std. Narrations… — the dialog is locked to that voucher's type, and Use narration copies the text into the voucher.

2Step by step #

Standard narrations save retyping the same voucher note hundreds of times.

  1. Press Add (F3) and pick the Voucher Type the narration belongs to — it is offered only on that type's vouchers.
  2. Type the Narration itself, e.g. Being cash sales for the day .
  3. Press Save (F5) and confirm; add the next with F3 .
  4. On the voucher screen, the narration picker now offers the entry; picking it copies the text into the voucher's narration, where it can still be edited for that one voucher.

3Fields & integrity #

  • Voucher Type is the voucher type this narration belongs to and is required. It is picked from the Voucher Type master; if the list is empty, create voucher types there first. In the embedded dialog opened from a voucher it is fixed to that voucher's type.
  • Narration is the reusable narration text (up to 255 characters) and is required.
  • Business rules: a narration always belongs to exactly one voucher type — the Std. Narrations picker on a voucher offers only that type's narrations. Renaming or deleting a voucher type automatically updates or removes its narrations (database cascade); deleting a narration also clears its document links, and user permissions (_PERM triggers) can refuse a save or delete.

This is the help InvoiceNET® ERP shows beside the Standard Narrations screen. Whether you have the screen depends on the modules of your licence and the rights your administrator has given you.
