1What is this master? #
- The master list of fixed-asset categories. Besides this page, the Fixed Asset Opening page's Category picker offers + Create new category , which opens this master as an embedded dialog.
- Only available when the Fixed Assets module is licensed; one record is edited at a time.
2Step by step #
Categories classify fixed assets — Vehicles, Machinery, Computers — for registers and depreciation grouping.
- Press Add (F3) , name the category, save with F5 .
- Assets adopt it at registration; asset registers subtotal by it.
3Toolbar & keyboard #
- Find (F2) searches and loads an existing category; Add (F3) starts a new one; Modify (F4) edits the loaded one (all from View mode).
- Save (F5) , Cancel (Esc) and Delete each ask to confirm first — OK is focused, so Enter confirms.
- Enter moves field-to-field; the toolbar stays fixed while the form scrolls.
4Fields #
- Category Name * — required and must be unique (it is the table's key); a duplicate name is rejected.
- Description — optional notes.
- Is Vehicle — flags the category as a vehicle; turning it on enables the two weight fields, turning it off clears them.
- Empty / Loaded Weight — the vehicle's tare and laden weights, editable only while Is Vehicle is on; used by weighment features.
- Depreciation — the method (straight line, written down value, or not depreciated), the rate % a year or, for straight line, the useful life in months, and the residual value % an asset is never depreciated below. Every asset of the category follows these unless it has figures of its own on Fixed Assets Master. A category with no method is left out of every run.
- Ledgers — the ledger depreciation is debited to and the one it is credited to (both needed before a run can be posted), the ledger the asset's cost is in, and the profit and loss on disposal ledgers used by Asset Transfer and Disposal.
- Income-tax block and its rate — where the category's assets are pooled on the income-tax statement. Categories naming the same block must give the same rate.
- Short code in asset codes — what goes inside the code Asset Tagging gives its assets (VEH in FA-VEH-00012). One category each.
- These are the same figures Depreciation Setup and Asset Tagging show; a change in one place is seen in the other. They are saved with the category when Save (F5) is pressed, and need the Alter right on Fixed Assets Master.
This is the help InvoiceNET® ERP shows beside the Fixed Asset Category Master screen. Whether you have the screen depends on the modules of your licence and the rights your administrator has given you.
