1How to work in this page #
- Find (F2): search by code or description.
- Add (F3): create a new code. Cursor lands on HSN Code.
- Modify (F4): edit the loaded code.
- Delete: remove the current code (view mode), with confirmation.
- Save (F5): commit the add / modify. HSN Code is required and must be unique.
- Cancel (Esc): discard the current edit.
2Step by step #
HSN codes are the GST commodity classification your invoices and returns must carry.
- Press Add (F3) and enter the code exactly as published — e.g. 7214 for TMT bars — with its description and GST rate details as the form asks.
- Press Save (F5) and confirm.
- Assign it to products on the Product master; invoices and GSTR reporting pick it up from there.
3About the fields #
- GST Rate (%): the tax rate applied to items under this code.
- EWB Unit Name: unit name reported on the E-Way Bill (pick from units or type).
- GSTR Unit Name: unit name reported on GSTR returns (pick from units or type).
- Unit Short Code: short unit code (pick from units or type).
4Why is a unit list empty? #
The three unit boxes suggest values from the Unit master, so the drop-downs stay empty until units have been created there. These boxes are editable, so you can still type a statutory unit name or code by hand if it is not yet in the Unit master.
5Rules and integrity #
- The code must be unique; a duplicate is refused before saving.
- The GST rate you set here seeds the tax on products that carry this code, and the unit names ride onto e-Way Bills and GST returns, so keep them correct.
- Codes are chosen on products. Deleting a code that is still in use can leave those products without one, so retire an obsolete code rather than deleting it.
