Item Sub-Group Master

An Item Sub-Group is a finer classification nested under a parent Item Group . Use it to organise products into a second level for reporting and selection.

1How to work in this page #

  1. Find (F2): search by name, parent group, or description.
  2. Add (F3): create a new sub-group. Cursor lands on Name.
  3. Modify (F4): edit the loaded sub-group.
  4. Delete: remove the current sub-group (view mode), with confirmation.
  5. Save (F5): commit the add / modify. Name and Item Group are required.
  6. Cancel (Esc): discard the current edit.

2Step by step #

A sub group refines an item group — Fasteners under Raw Material, for example.

  1. Press Add (F3) , name the sub group and pick its parent Item Group.
  2. Press Save (F5) and confirm; F3 for the next.
  3. Products pick the sub group on the Product master; stock reports can then subtotal group → sub group.

3Why is the Item Group list empty? #

The parent Item Group list is filled from the Item Group master, so it stays empty until at least one group has been created there. Every sub-group must sit under a group, so you cannot save one until a group exists.

Use the + button beside the Item Group box to create the parent group inline without leaving this page; it becomes selectable straight away.

4Rules and integrity #

  • A parent Item Group is mandatory — the sub-group cannot be saved without one.
  • The sub-group name must be unique; a duplicate is refused before saving.
  • Sub-groups can be chosen as the parent of item categories. Deleting one that is still in use can leave those categories pointing at a missing parent, so retire rather than delete a sub-group that has been used.

This is the help InvoiceNET® ERP shows beside the Item Sub-Group Master screen. Whether you have the screen depends on the modules of your licence and the rights your administrator has given you.
