Currency Master

A Currency defines a money unit the company deals in — its name, ISO code, symbol, decimal-unit name and a unique short code. Currencies are picked in multi-currency transactions and party masters.

1What is this master? #

  • One record per currency. Use Find (F2) to load one, Add (F3) to create, Modify (F4) to edit, Save (F5) to store it. After a save the record stays on screen in view mode.
  • Opened as an embedded dialog from another page, Use currency returns the loaded currency to the caller.

2Step by step #

Currencies enable billing in something other than the base currency, with a rate per voucher.

  1. Press Add (F3) , enter the currency code and name — USD, US Dollar — and its symbol/format details.
  2. Press Save (F5) and confirm.
  3. Turn currency selection on for the voucher types that bill in it; entry then asks for the currency and rate per voucher.

3Fields #

  • Currency Name is the currency's full name (up to 50 characters), is required, and identifies the record — it can only be typed while adding and is locked once saved.
  • Description is free remark text about the currency (up to 255 characters).
  • Short Name is the 3-letter international ISO code, e.g. INR or USD — it appears on printed documents beside amounts.
  • Decimal Name is what a hundredth of the currency is called, e.g. Paise or Cents — used when amounts are written in words.
  • Currency Symbol is the printable sign (up to 5 characters), e.g. ₹ or $.
  • Currency Code is a short internal code (up to 16 characters) that must be unique across currencies.
  • Is Inactive ? hides the currency from pick lists without deleting it — switch it off again to bring the currency back.

4Integrity #

  • The currency name and the currency code must each be unique — a save that duplicates either is refused by the database.
  • User permissions (_PERM triggers) can refuse a save or delete; ask your administrator if a valid entry is rejected.
  • Deleting a currency also clears its document links automatically.
  • Renaming a saved currency is not supported — delete the record and re-create it under the new name instead.

This is the help InvoiceNET® ERP shows beside the Currency Master screen. Whether you have the screen depends on the modules of your licence and the rights your administrator has given you.
