Holiday Settings

The holiday calendar is the list of days the organisation does not work. Attendance and payroll read it to decide whether a date is a working day.

1Purpose #

  • Records one row per non-working day, so attendance processing can tell a holiday apart from an absence and payroll does not deduct for it.
  • Shift rules read it too: a shift set to treat holiday work as overtime uses this list to decide which days qualify.
  • It does not record weekly offs — those belong to the shift (Week Off), because they differ per shift rather than per organisation. It also does not grant leave; that is the leave policy.

2Your first holiday, step by step #

Suppose Independence Day (15 August) has to go on the calendar. The page opens ready to type — the Mode card at the top right already reads Add .

  1. Click into Holiday Date (or just start — the cursor is already there) and pick 15 August from the calendar, or type the date.
  2. Press Enter . The cursor moves to Description ; type Independence Day . This is the text you will recognise the entry by later, so name the occasion rather than leaving it blank.
  3. Press Enter again and switch Repeats every year ON, because this holiday falls on the same date every year.
  4. Press Enter once more — focus lands on the Save (F5) button — and press Enter (or F5, or click Save). A small window asks you to confirm; Enter again says yes.
  5. The banner reports the save, the ID box now shows the number the system gave the entry, and the Mode card reads View . Nothing you type now changes anything — viewing is read-only.
  6. Press F3 for the next holiday and repeat. Entering a whole year's calendar is exactly this loop, once per day off.

A festival that moves each year — Onam, Eid, Diwali — is entered the same way but with Repeats every year left OFF, and you add next year's date when next year's calendar is decided.

Made a mistake? Press F2 , pick the entry from the list, press F4 , correct it and save again. To remove it entirely, load it the same way and press Delete — the page asks before anything happens. Changing your mind halfway through any edit is Esc , which asks and then puts everything back.

3How to use it #

  1. Find (F2) lists every holiday with its date and description; pick one to load it.
  2. Add (F3) starts a new entry with the cursor in Holiday Date.
  3. Modify (F4) edits the loaded holiday, Delete removes it, and both ask first.
  4. Save (F5) commits. After saving, the record stays on screen in View mode — press Add (F3) for the next one.
  5. Enter moves from field to field and lands on Save, so a whole holiday can be entered without the mouse.

4Field details #

  • ID is assigned by the system when the holiday is first saved and never changes. It shows "Auto" until then.
  • Holiday Date is required and is the entry's identity — a date can appear only once in the calendar.
  • Description is optional free text naming the occasion, and is what makes the Find list readable.
  • Repeats every year marks a fixed-date holiday that recurs annually. Leave it off for a date that moves year to year.

5Shortcut keys #

  • F2 Find · F3 Add · F4 Modify · F5 Save · Esc Cancel.
  • Enter moves to the next field; from the last one it lands on Save.
  • Keys belong to the focused copy of the page — with two tabs open, the one you are looking at answers. A dialog's own keys win while it is open.

6Why is a pick-list empty? #

  • This page has no pick-lists — every field is typed or picked from the calendar, so nothing here depends on another master being filled in first.
  • If Find (F2) comes back empty, no holidays have been entered yet for this company. Press Add (F3) to create the first one.

7Rules and integrity #

  • The date is unique. It is the table's primary key, so two rows cannot share one date. The page checks before saving and the server checks again, because two people can save the same date at the same moment.
  • Holiday Date is required; saving without one is refused.
  • Deleting a holiday affects attendance already processed against it — periods processed earlier keep the result they were given. Correct the calendar before running attendance for a period, not after.
  • Permission triggers on the table record who created and changed each row, and a delete-cleanup trigger removes any linked documents.

This is the help InvoiceNET® ERP shows beside the Holiday Settings screen. Whether you have the screen depends on the modules of your licence and the rights your administrator has given you.
