Menu Group Page

What it is. A section page. It lists everything filed under one heading of the sidebar menu, such as Masters, Reports, Attendance & Payroll or Approvals, as cards sorted into groups. A card opens a screen, or another section page when it has items of its own. The cards are built from the very same menu the sidebar is built from, so this page and the sidebar always agree about what you can see.

1Purpose #

Some sidebar headings keep their items out of the sidebar so the menu stays short. Clicking such a heading opens this page, which lays the items out as cards you can search and open with the mouse or the keyboard.

Nothing is entered or saved here. The page does not grant or refuse anything: it only shows what the company's licence and your menu rights already allow. What a user may see is changed in User Manager, and what the company may use is changed on its licence.

On the Approvals section each card also shows how many requests are waiting on you at that desk.

When the section belongs to a module that has voucher types (CRM, Sales, Service, Payroll and so on), they are listed first, under Voucher Entry . A card opens a new voucher of that type in its own tab.

2Step by step #

Opening the Ledger Account Master from the Masters section, then an approval desk.

  1. In the sidebar, click Masters . A new tab called Masters opens. The line above the title reads MAS, the cards appear under group headings such as Accounting Masters, Custom Data and Customer Card, and the cursor is already in the search box.
  2. Start here (the section's Getting Started guide) comes first; the other groups follow in alphabetical order, and cards inside a group follow their menu order. A card with no group sits under General.
  3. Click the Search box and type ledger . Only cards whose name, description or group contains that text remain, here Ledger Account Group and Ledger Account Master.
  4. Press Down arrow : the keyboard moves from the search box onto the first card, which lifts and shows a coloured ring. Press Right arrow to reach Ledger Account Master.
  5. Press Enter . Ledger Account Master opens in its own tab. The Masters tab is still there; switch back to it and press Esc to close it.
  6. Now click Approvals in the sidebar (it is only there if you are an approver for at least one desk, have approval requests addressed to you or raised by you, or hold the Administrator, Global Administrator or Developer role). A card such as Leave Approvals may carry an amber badge and a line reading, for example, 3 waiting on you . Open it, decide the requests, and when the bell's numbers change the badge on this page follows by itself.
  7. If a card you expected is not there, work through Why is an item missing? below. Once an administrator has changed your menu rights, press Refresh (F5) here and the cards are read again.

3Why is an item missing? (licence first, then permission) #

Two checks decide every card, always in this order, and the sidebar applies exactly the same two.

1. Licence.

  • Every menu item carries a module code, for example SAL (Sales), PUR (Purchase), INV (Inventory Management), ACC (Financial Accounting), PAY (Payroll), TIMEMGT (Employee Time Management), CRM, SER (Service), FIX (Fixed Assets), CASH or CASHIER (Cashier), DOC (Document Management), ORD (Order Management), LINKTRAN (Linked Transactions), RPT (Standard Reports), CRPT (Custom Reports), DASHBOARD and ADMN (Admin).
  • An item is shown only when its own module is on the company's licence. A section whose module is not licensed is removed together with everything under it, so an item also needs every section above it to pass. An item under a licensed section is still judged on its own module.
  • Codes the licence does not define are never hidden by it. These are structural codes such as SET (Settings), MAS (Masters), ALL and APPRL (the Approvals heading), and the older Tran code.
  • If the company has no licence loaded, or its licence shows no module subscribed at all, it is treated as not loaded and nothing is hidden. When the licence cannot be read at company selection, the session runs with every module open.
  • The licence check applies to every role, Administrators included.

2. Your menu rights.

  • Administrator, Global Administrator and Developer see the whole licensed menu; their ticks are not read.
  • For Operators and every other role, the ticks in User Manager (Menu Definition tab, and the Reports tab for reports) decide. With no ticks at all nothing is shown: the sidebar and every section page stay empty until an administrator ticks items for that user.
  • Rights are per company. Ticks made while one company is selected do not apply in another.
  • Ticking a section grants everything under it. Ticking a single item also brings in the headings above it, so the item can be reached.
  • An item unticked inside a ticked section is stored as a refusal and withheld. Going up the menu from an item, the nearest tick or refusal decides.
  • The Admin section (module ADMN) and everything under it belongs to Administrator, Global Administrator and Developer only. Ticking it for anyone else has no effect.
  • The Approvals section ignores ticks in both directions. A desk shows only to a genuine approver of that desk and hides from everyone else, ticked or not: Credit Approvals to a user named as approver on any account's credit limit or listed in the credit-approver setting (setting 211); Leave, Extra-Work, Employee Claim and Special Discount Approvals to users holding the Approve right on that desk's permission object. The Approvals Inbox card shows to anyone who is an approver at any of those desks, and also to anyone the inbox already holds requests for, whether sent to them or raised by them, so approvers of workflows without a desk card (salary payment, draft receipts) and people following their own requests can reach it. The Approvals Getting Started guide shows to everyone who can see the Approvals heading. Any other desk the menu has no approver check for stays hidden from everyone but the three roles above, and the Approvals heading disappears when none of its cards is left. Each desk keeps its own module code, so the licence check can still remove it first.
  • If your menu rights cannot be read at all, the menu is left unfiltered rather than emptied. When only the rights table is not installed, ticks are ignored but the Admin section still closes to other roles and the Approvals rule still applies.

Other reasons.

  • An item marked inactive is left out of the menu. Marking only a heading inactive does not hide the items under it: they lose their parent and appear at the top level of the sidebar.
  • No items found under … means the section exists for you but none of its items passed both checks. Menu group not found. means this section is not in your menu (both checks removed it) or the menu could not be loaded.
  • The menu is remembered for your session, per company, branch, user and licence. After menu rights or approver assignments change, press Refresh (F5) on this page; the sidebar keeps its own list until its refresh button at the top is pressed. The licence is read when the company is chosen, so a licence change shows after choosing the company again or signing in again.
  • Seeing a card does not by itself let you in. The screen a card opens checks the licence and your rights again, and the server checks again when anything is saved.

4Shortcut keys #

  • Arrow keys move between cards. Left and Right step to the previous or next card; Up and Down go to the nearest card in the row above or below, whatever the window width.
  • Home and End jump to the first and last card.
  • Enter or Space opens the focused card, the same as clicking it.
  • Down arrow in the Search box moves onto the first card; every other key types as usual.
  • F5 is Refresh: it forgets the remembered menu and reads it again. It does not reload the browser.
  • Esc closes this tab (not while the page is still loading). An open popup or dialog takes Esc first.
  • When the page opens, the cursor is in the Search box, ready to type; Down arrow takes the keyboard to the cards.
  • Keys belong to the section page on screen; with several open, to the one you last clicked in. Arrow keys used inside this guide stay with the guide.

5Rules and integrity #

  • The page is read-only: it never writes to the menu or to anyone's rights.
  • Signed out, the page sends you to the login screen; with no company chosen, to company selection.
  • Every menu item's name is unique within the company's menu, so the same name cannot be filed twice under different headings.
  • Changing a menu item's number moves the items under it along with it. Only one item's number can be changed at a time; a change to several at once is refused.
  • A card's text is the item's name, with its description underneath (the name again when there is no description). A card with no screen and no items of its own does nothing when opened.
  • Waiting counts are drawn only on the Approvals section and only when above zero. They count requests and reminders addressed to you that are neither resolved nor dismissed. If the counts cannot be read, the cards still open their desks without them.
  • Licence and rights are enforced where it matters, at the screen and on the server; this page only reflects them.

6If something does not work #

"The voucher types of this module could not be listed: ..."
Why
The Voucher Entry list is read from the server separately from the menu, and that read failed. The menu cards are unaffected.
What to do
Press Refresh (F5); the text after the colon is the server's own.
A voucher type is missing from Voucher Entry (or shows under another module)
Why
Voucher Entry lists the voucher types of the section's module: Voucher Manager's Module field when it is filled, else the base type's module. Only licensed types you hold a voucher right on are listed, and inactive types are left out.
What to do
Check the voucher type's Module (or its base type) in Voucher Manager, its Inactive switch, and your rights on it in User Manager's Vouchers tab; then press Refresh (F5).
A page you know exists is not in the menu
Why
The sidebar is pruned by the licence after it is built, and a row whose module is not licensed is dropped.
What to do
Check the module on the licence; then check the menu row has been seeded in this company database.
A menu entry opens the wrong screen, or nothing at all
Why
The row carries the route; a mis-typed route matches no page.
What to do
An administrator corrects it.
An icon is missing from an entry
Why
Icons are named against the theme's own set - a name it does not know draws nothing.
What to do
Use a name from the theme; it is not free text.
A change here does not reach a user already signed in
Why
The menu is built at sign-in.
What to do
Ask them to sign out and in.

This is the help InvoiceNET® ERP shows beside the Menu Group Page screen. Whether you have the screen depends on the modules of your licence and the rights your administrator has given you.
