1What this screen is for #
- Menu path: Warehouse Management > Bin Master. Route /warehouse/bins .
- Refine a single bin: its type, capacity, mixing rule, walking order and label value.
- Block a bin that must take nothing in and give nothing out - a damaged shelf, a spill. Unblock it afterwards.
- Retire a bin with status Inactive ; delete only a bin nothing refers to, such as a mistake of the generator.
- Print one label, or the labels of the bins listed.
2Step by step #
- Pick the storage space. The list shows its bins, up to 500 at a time.
- Find the bin: press Find (F2) , scan its label or type its code and press Enter; or narrow the list by zone and status.
- Press Modify (F4) , change what is needed, Save (F5) and confirm.
- To add a single bin press Add (F3) ; for many, use the pattern on Warehouse layout.
3Toolbar & keyboard #
- Find (F2) puts the cursor in the Find box; a handheld scanner types the label and presses Enter by itself.
- Add (F3) , Modify (F4) , Save (F5) , Cancel (Esc) and Delete ; Save, Cancel and Delete ask to confirm, with OK focused.
- Esc in view mode closes the page. Enter moves field to field.
4Fields #
- Bin code * - the printed address; capitals, digits, hyphen, dot, underscore and slash, up to 40, one per storage space.
- Zone * , Bin type * - Receiving, Storage, Pick face, Staging, Packing, Dispatch, QC hold, Damage, Returns.
- Status - Active, Blocked, Inactive. Counting is shown while a count has the bin and cannot be set by hand.
- Mixing , Pick sequence , Capacity - kept now and used when receiving and picking are delivered.
- Label value - what the bar code carries; empty means the bin code. Unique in the whole company.
- The bar code at the top right of the Bin panel is the one the label prints - of what the form holds now, so a changed code or label value shows before it is saved. A scanner can read it off the screen.
- Aisle, Level, Position - where the bin is in its zone, for the layout map of Warehouse layout. Optional; capitals and digits, up to 10 each.
5Rules (why a save or a delete is refused) #
- A bin never moves to another storage space, and its zone is always a zone of its own storage space.
- The default receiving and dispatch bins of a storage space stay Active; name other default bins on the Warehouse master first.
- A bin that is an item's pick bin, a default bin, or used by another record cannot be deleted - mark it Inactive.
- Who may add, change or delete is set in User Manager, on the object WMS - Bins .
6If something does not work #
"Bin code is required." / "Zone is required." / "Bin type is required."
- Why
- A bin needs all three before it can be saved.
- What to do
- Fill the field named and save again.
"Bin code '...' may hold capital letters, digits, hyphen, dot, underscore and slash, up to 40, and must start with a letter or a digit. No spaces - it is printed, scanned and typed."
- Why
- A space or an unusual sign in a bin code cannot be typed reliably on a phone or read back from a label.
- What to do
- Use capitals, digits and hyphens: WH1-A-03-2-B.
"Bin ... already exists in .... Each bin of a storage space has its own code."
- Why
- Two bins of one storage space cannot share a code.
- What to do
- Give the bin another code, or open the existing one.
"The label value can't exceed 60 characters." / "The label value may hold only letters, digits and the usual keyboard signs, with no space at either end - it is printed as a bar code."
- Why
- The label value is what the bar code carries.
- What to do
- Leave it empty to use the bin's code, or shorten and simplify it.
"The label value '...' is already on bin ... in .... A scan must find one bin only - in every storage space of the company."
- Why
- A scan is looked up across every storage space, so no two bins may carry the same value.
- What to do
- Change the label value, or give the storage spaces different prefixes.
"The zone picked is not a zone of this storage space. Pick it again." / "Zone ... is Inactive. Pick a zone in use."
- Why
- A bin belongs to a zone of its own storage space, and a new bin to a zone in use.
- What to do
- Pick another zone.
"Bin type '...' is not one of: ..." / "Mixing '...' is not one of: ..." / "Status '...' is not one of: ..."
- Why
- The value is not in its list.
- What to do
- Pick it from the list.
"Maximum quantity must be above zero - leave it empty for no limit." (also weight, volume, pallets) / "Pick sequence can't be below zero."
- Why
- A capacity of zero would mean the bin can hold nothing.
- What to do
- Clear the box for no limit, or give a number above zero.
"Aisle '...' may hold capital letters and digits only, up to 10 - it places the bin on the layout map. Leave it empty for a bin that is not in an aisle." (also Level, Position)
- Why
- Aisle, level and position place the bin on the layout map of Warehouse layout, and are short codes without spaces or signs.
- What to do
- Use letters and digits only (03, 2, B), or clear the box.
"A bin is put under Counting by starting a count that includes it, not by hand." / "Bin ... is being counted. Its status changes when the count is finished or cancelled."
- Why
- Counting freezes a bin while it is counted. Only a count sets it and only a count ends it.
- What to do
- Pick Active, Blocked or Inactive; for a bin being counted, wait for the count.
"Bin ... is the default receiving or dispatch bin of its storage space and has to stay Active. Name another default bin on the Warehouse master first."
- Why
- Vouchers typed without a bin, and vouchers from the desktop, land in the default bins. Blocking or retiring one would leave them nowhere to go.
- What to do
- On the Warehouse master, name another default bin; then change this one.
"Bin ... is the pick bin of, or carries a rule for, ... item(s). Change those on Item warehouse settings first, or mark the bin Inactive." / "Bin ... is used by other records and cannot be deleted. Mark it Inactive instead ..."
- Why
- A bin that something refers to cannot be deleted.
- What to do
- Mark it Inactive, or change the items that use it first.
"Bin ... holds stock. Move it to another bin (Bin Stock) before the bin is made Inactive; Blocked keeps the stock and stops it moving."
- Why
- A retired bin is offered nowhere, so stock left in it could not be picked or moved.
- What to do
- On Bin Stock, move what the bin holds to another bin; then make it Inactive. To keep the stock where it is and stop it moving, use Blocked.
"The bin being modified no longer exists in this storage space. Load the list again." / "That bin no longer exists. Load the list again."
- Why
- Someone deleted the bin while it was open here.
- What to do
- Pick the storage space again to reload the list.
"No bin of ... has '...' in its code or label value."
- Why
- The text typed or scanned in Find is neither a bin's label value nor part of a bin code of this storage space.
- What to do
- Check the label. Clear the Find box and press Enter to list every bin again.
"... is a bin of .... Pick that storage space to open it."
- Why
- The label scanned belongs to a bin of another storage space open to your branch.
- What to do
- Pick that storage space in the list at the top left, then find the bin again.
"... has no zone yet. Add its zones on Warehouse layout first - a bin belongs to a zone." / Add (F3) is greyed out
- Why
- A bin belongs to a zone, and the storage space has no zone in use.
- What to do
- Add a zone on Warehouse layout, then come back.
"Showing ... of ... bins - pick a zone, or type part of a code and press Enter."
- Why
- The list shows at most 500 bins at a time.
- What to do
- Narrow it by zone or status, or search for the code.
"There is no bin in use in the list to label."
- Why
- Labels are printed for bins that are not Inactive, and the list holds none.
- What to do
- Change the zone or status filter, or print the picked bin's own label.
A label prints "No bar code: the label value "..." holds a character a bar code cannot carry. Change it on the Bin master."
- Why
- The bin's label value holds a character outside what the bar code can carry.
- What to do
- Modify the bin and change its label value to letters, digits and the usual keyboard signs.
"The labels could not be handed to the browser's print dialog. Reload the page (Ctrl+F5) and print again." / "The labels could not be sent to the printer. ..."
- Why
- Labels are printed from a hidden frame inside the page, and the browser could not make it or failed while filling it.
- What to do
- Press Ctrl+F5 to reload the page, then print again.
