1What this screen is for #
- Menu path: Warehouse Management > Outbound > Pack. Route /warehouse/pack . Made for a phone at the packing station first; the same at a desk with a USB scanner.
- Only a storage space with Pack into cartons on (Warehouse master, Run by the WMS) packs. One that ships loose is loaded by order on the Dispatch desk and never comes here.
- An order is listed while stock is staged for it in the dispatch bin - picked on a wave or on the Picking screen - and while its cartons wait to be loaded. To pack = staged less what its cartons hold.
- One carton of an order is open at a time. A scan goes into the open carton: the item's barcode, item code or part number, a lot's label, or a unit's serial number. The quantity in the box goes in (1 as delivered); a serial-registered unit goes in one scan a unit. Pack on a line puts all that is left of it in without a scan.
- Close carton asks for the weight (compulsory) and the size, numbers the carton n of m of its order, and prints its label and packing slip. A closed carton can be reopened until it is loaded; an open or closed one can be cancelled with a reason - what it held is to pack again.
- The packing slip carries quantities only, never a price. The label carries the carton number that the loader scans against the vehicle.
2Step by step #
- Pick the storage space , then the order (the drop-down on a phone, the cards at a desk).
- Press Open carton (F3) .
- Scan each item as it goes into the carton. The message under the scan box says what went in and what is still to pack. Take out a line that went in by mistake.
- When the carton is full press Close carton (F5) , give the weight and size, confirm. The label and the packing slip open: print them, put the slip inside, stick the label on the side.
- Open the next carton for the rest of the order. When everything staged is in cartons the order reads Packed ; the cartons wait in the dispatch bin for the Dispatch desk.
3Toolbar & keyboard #
- Scan (F2) puts the cursor in the scan box. Open carton (F3) . Pack (F4) packs all that is left of the first line still to pack, without a scan. Close carton (F5) . Esc closes a dialog; with none open, the page.
- Papers on a closed carton reopens its label and slip to print again; Reopen and Cancel as above.
4If something does not work #
"You do not hold the right to open Pack. An administrator grants it in User Manager, Masters tab, on the object WMS - Tasks: Pack (View)." / "... open a carton ... (Alter)" / "... pack into a carton ... (Alter)" / "... cancel a carton ... (Delete)"
- Why
- Pack opens with the View right on WMS - Tasks: Pack; opening, filling, closing and reopening a carton need Alter; cancelling needs Delete.
- What to do
- An administrator ticks the right on WMS - Tasks: Pack for you in User Manager.
"This storage space is not run by the WMS - nothing is packed here." / "... has no dispatch bin ..."
- Why
- Packing works from the storage space's dispatch bin, where picked stock stands; the storage space must be run by the WMS and name one.
- What to do
- Switch the storage space on in the block Run by the WMS of the Warehouse master and set its dispatch bin.
"... ships loose: Pack into cartons is off in the block Run by the WMS of the Warehouse master. Picked stock waits in ... and is loaded by order."
- Why
- The storage space's packing switch is off: it does not pack into cartons.
- What to do
- Load by order on the Dispatch desk; or an administrator switches Pack into cartons on for the storage space.
Nothing is staged in the dispatch bin to pack
- Why
- An order is listed once stock is picked for it - on a wave (My Tasks) or on the Picking screen - and stands in the dispatch bin under its number.
- What to do
- Pick the order first, then press Refresh.
"Order ... has nothing staged in ... - pick it first (a wave, or the Picking screen). Press Refresh."
- Why
- Between the list and the Open, the order's staged stock left the dispatch bin (a Delivery Note took it, or it was moved back).
- What to do
- Press Refresh.
"Carton ... is already open for ... - scan into it, or close it first." / "... already has a carton open - close it first; one carton is filled at a time."
- Why
- One carton of an order is open at a time.
- What to do
- Scan into the open carton, or close it (F5) and open the next.
"Everything staged for ... is already in its cartons (...). Nothing is left to pack."
- Why
- The order is fully packed; its cartons wait for the Dispatch desk.
- What to do
- Nothing to do - or reopen a carton to change it.
"Carton ... is ... - it cannot be filled. Reopen it first." / "... cannot be changed ..." / "... cannot be closed ..."
- Why
- Only an Open carton takes items, loses them or is closed; a Closed one is reopened first; a Loaded one is on a vehicle and is not changed here.
- What to do
- Reopen the carton, or open a new one.
"Open a carton for the order first (F3)." / "Pick the storage space and an order first."
- Why
- A scan goes into the open carton of the order picked.
- What to do
- Pick the order and press Open carton (F3), then scan.
"Typing a code is switched off (WMS Settings, Scanning). Scan the label."
- Why
- WMS allow typed confirmation (#295) is No: a code keyed by hand is refused.
- What to do
- Scan the label; or an administrator sets #295 to Yes on WMS Settings.
"'...' is not an item's code, barcode, part number, lot label or a serial number in ...." / "'...' is a carton's label. Scan the item going into carton ...." / "Nothing was scanned."
- Why
- The code read matches no item the system knows, no lot label, and no unit the serial register holds in the dispatch bin.
- What to do
- Scan the item's barcode, code or part number, its lot label, or the unit's serial number - or press Pack on the line.
"... is not on ..., or nothing of it is staged in .... It does not go into this carton."
- Why
- Only what was picked for the order goes into its cartons; the item is not on the order, or none of it is staged yet.
- What to do
- Set the item aside and tell the supervisor; pick the item for the order if it is missing.
"... is staged in n batches for ... (...). Pick the batch on the list, then pack." / "... of that batch is not staged for ...."
- Why
- The order has the item in more than one batch and the scan did not say which.
- What to do
- Press Pack on the batch's line in the To pack list, or scan the lot's label.
"Everything staged of ... for ... is already in a carton. Nothing more goes in." / "... is more than the ... of ... still to pack for ... (... staged, ... in cartons). Never more than was picked."
- Why
- A carton never holds more of an item than was picked for the order less what its other cartons hold.
- What to do
- Check the cartons of the order; take a line out of one, or pick more for the order.
"... is in ... by serial number (n unit(s)): scan the serial number of each unit going into the carton." / "Serial number ... is not in ... for ...." / "Serial number ... is already in a carton."
- Why
- A unit the serial register holds in the dispatch bin is packed by its number, one scan a unit; a number not in the dispatch bin, or already packed, is refused.
- What to do
- Scan the serial number on the unit in hand.
"Carton ... is empty - scan what goes in, or cancel it." / "Give the carton's weight in kg - the manifest and the label carry it." / "The weight can't exceed 9999 kg." / "The length is given in cm, 0 to 99999." / "The note can't exceed 200 characters."
- Why
- Closing a carton asks for its weight; the size and the note are optional.
- What to do
- Weigh the carton, type the weight, press Close the carton.
"Carton ... is ... - only a closed carton that is not loaded is reopened." / "Carton ... is ... - it cannot be cancelled here."
- Why
- A Loaded carton is on a vehicle: the Dispatch desk decides about it.
- What to do
- Nothing to do here; see the Dispatch desk.
"Say why the carton is cancelled - it is kept with it." / "The reason can't exceed 200 characters."
- Why
- Cancelling asks for a reason.
- What to do
- Type it and press Cancel this carton.
"The label could not be sent to the printer - ..." / "The packing slip could not be sent to the printer - ..."
- Why
- The browser refused the print window (a pop-up blocker, as a rule).
- What to do
- Allow pop-ups for this site and press Print again.
"That carton no longer exists. Press Refresh." / "That line is no longer in the carton. Press Refresh."
- Why
- The screen is older than the database.
- What to do
- Press Refresh.
This is the help InvoiceNET® ERP shows beside the Pack screen. Whether you have the screen depends on the modules of your licence and the rights your administrator has given you.
