Manufacturing

From a bill of materials to finished goods at the right cost.

Bills of materials, operations and production orders, with every production moving raw material out and finished goods in at a cost you can explain.

Manufacturing turns raw materials into finished goods at a known cost. A bill of materials says what one production run uses and makes, including charges such as labour, power and packing. A production voucher uses it: raw materials go out of stock and finished goods come in. The finished goods are valued at what went in plus the charges of making them. Production orders plan the work before anything moves. Saving one can raise the purchase orders, job orders and further production orders it needs. With Advanced Manufacturing and Quality Management you can add operations, work centres and quality orders.

Why use it

  • You do not know what a finished product really costHere its cost is the material used plus the making charges.
  • Material is issued on slips that never reach the booksHere one production voucher takes raw material out and puts finished goods in.
  • Shortages are found when the line stopsHere saving a production order can raise purchase orders for what it needs.
  • Work sent to job workers is tracked on paperHere job orders are raised and recorded with the production.

Key advantages

The bill of materials is the recipe - raw materials, sundry charges and finished goods - used the same way every run.

One production voucher moves both sides of stock, so raw material and finished goods never drift apart.

The cost of production is shared across the goods made and becomes their stock value.

A new production order can raise purchase orders per supplier, job orders and orders for linked BOMs in the same save.

Stock reports show production apart from ordinary movement - what was made and what was used.

A quality order can hold received stock until it is completed.

Business benefits

Known product cost

You price finished goods from a cost you can explain line by line.

Material under control

Every kilo issued to production is on record against the run that used it.

Planned buying

Materials are ordered when production is planned, not when the line stops.

Quality on record

Goods held for inspection cannot slip into sale before they are cleared.

Where it is used

Manufacturing

A small factory makes several products from shared raw materials.

Each product's BOM lists what it uses, and every production run moves the stock and works out the cost.

Food

A food maker adds labour, power and packing to the cost of each batch.

Those charges are part of the BOM, so the finished goods carry them in their stock value.

Manufacturing

A plant sends part of its work to job workers.

Production orders raise job orders for those items in the same save.

What it costs, and what it saves

See pricing

The price list could not be read just now; the pricing page shows today's price.

What it replaces

  • Working out product cost on a spreadsheet
  • Issuing material on paper slips
  • Finding shortages when production stops
  • Posting raw material and finished goods separately
